Real life interaction with Jonah Hill

Jeremiah: I wanted to ask about the quote I saw in Newsweek. Is it true that the ladies are not flocking to Jonah Hill?

Jonah Hill: They asked me to write something for Newsweek. Judd (Apatow) and I decided to just make it a complete joke. Try to make it funny. I get a lot of ladies. I’m fine. I just wanted to make it a plea for help, as pathetic as possible. People seemed to think it was funny. I’m alright. I don’t have a girlfriend at the moment. I’m single, so ladies, if you’re reading Geek Magazine, which I’m sure only attractive ladies read...

Jeremiah: They did have an article in last month’s issue about a hot girls who play video games calendar. All the hot girls are playing video games naked in the calendar.

Hill: That’s hilarious. We could do a hot guys who play video games calendar.

Jeremiah: Or not hot guys.

Hill: Yeah. We could do a not hot naked guys video games calendar. I haven’t seen what you look like, but if you’d like to email me…

Jeremiah: Yeah I’ll shoot you an email. I think I would fall under the not hot guys category.

Hill: Oh, c’mon Jeremiah. I haven’t seen you, but you have a wonderful sounding voice.

Jeremiah: Thank you.

Christmas

So, I usually have a decent amount of CDs that come per week. Probably between 10 and 15. Sometimes lower, sometimes higher.

But today was the day to end all CD days.

I got 28 CDs in the mail today, including:

The new Wilco
A new Pleasure Forever b-sides and rarities collection
The new Pterodactyl
The new To Live and Shave and L.A. (released on a French label)
The new Weasel Walter (released on that same French label)
Tons of shit I've never heard of
AND
AND
AND
AND
AND
AND

The new Animal Collective CD that doesn't come out until:

September.

It's so damn good. They went back to their noise roots--it's going to alienate the shit out of people, but still rules.

I'm currently burning CDs for my students as I say goodbye to them.

Subtitle, Busdriver, MF Doom, Madvillian and Mr. Lif for Lorenzo (we engaged in a spirited debate with the rest of the class today on whether or not hip-hop lyrics, or any other lyrics, should be censored on public radio. He and I were the only two who didn't think they should be).

The Paper Chase and Murder By Death for Idania (she's a cellist and I already gave her Cursive and other Murder By Death stuff).

Saul Williams, MF Doom and Madvillian for Donovan.

Sleater-Kinney and Arcade Fire for Tasha.

Smashing Pumpkins for Maritza.

Portishead and Tricky for Uriel.

Probably all of the above hip-hop CDs + Beans for Arsenio, my aspiring rapper.

Burning CDs takes a long time.

Home is where the Heart is

I watched VH-1's rock honors the other day because I saw Queens of the Stone Age and Alice in Chains paid homage to Ozzy and Heart, respectively. Of particular note was, of course, what the hell Alice in Chains would sound like without Layne Staley.

Unfortunately, the band performed Heart's "Barracuda" with country singer Gretchen Wilson on vocals, so I didn't get to hear Jerry + the new black guy in the band. Fortunately, Ms. Wilson nailed the song, and as an added bonus, the hot Wilson sister (Nancy) came out and shredded with Cantrell. Queens also, expectedly, nailed Ozzy.

We'll not talk about horrible Keane was while covering Genesis. Even Nickelback was serviceable while covering ZZ Top.

In other news, I interviewed Jonah Hill from Superbad on Friday. He was absolutely hilarious, and we decided we were going to make an ugly naked men playing video games calendar.

You had to be there.

Also, Jen and I bought a house. It's monstrous. And cool.

sickness

Ok. I'm sick.

But I got the new Night Wounds CD...and it's pretty awesome.

And I'm listening to Brother Reade, sitting here wondering whether or not it's racist of me to think that white rappers are almost universally awful. It especially bothers me when rappers try to "sound black" or whatever. I don't know. It's just such a glorious art form that white folk have no business dabbling in.

Except for Aesop Rock. And the Beastie Boys.

They're the only exceptions I can think of.

Brother Reade sucks.
El-P sucks (outside of production)
Brother Ali sucks.
Slug sucks.
Acid Reign sucks.

Why is it that Aesop Rock and the Beasties don't bug me? I have no idea, other than to say they simply sound real.

Stuff

Small dumb update:

I think I have pneumonia again.
I am very upset at the Buffalo Sabres.
I dig this new band called Attack Formation. And another one called Paper Airplanes.
Apparently I'm the new music editor for Geek Magazine.
90 some odd 11th graders suck the life out of you (in a good way)
I interviewed Michael Cera (George Michael on "Arrested Development")
That's about it.
